Long histories of band activity is a far sight for many of us now but Fading Hour is out to prove us wrong with their announcement of a new single across 17(!) years of time together. Their fourth single since February of 2025, it feels like the group are gearing up for something huge and we had to know. A few emails back and forth later and we got the answers.

How have you found the experience of being part of the Melbourne hardcore/metal community so far?

In short, awesome. We have taken an extended break away from the scene, but coming back into it it’s been great not only to see all the new bands that have risen up, but also the come back of several other bands that were heavy hitters in our particular heavy prog metal also make a come back. The community is great, people jump on board with things and everyone genuinely likes seeing everyone else succeed.

As a band of a seventeen-year history, what sort of industry changes have you seen between then and now when you started playing live and releasing music?

For us, the way we release music now is very different to when we started – this includes the writing and recording process particularly. Some of this has been with access to better technology, but also life changes (all four of us are dads) have also changed how we do things too – we just don’t have time to waste, so efficiency is definitely the name of the game now.

Your single from April, 'Leave It All Behind', was mixed to perfection and feels like something we should be experiencing in an arena tour! How was the recording process for that track?

Thank you – we were really happy with how that one came out. The process was actually similar to the previous 2 tracks that also came out in 2025, Asphyxia and then Out of Nowhere. We tracked all of the instruments at Fading Hour HQ - Chris’s home studio - and he engineered it all. It then went to Tyson Fish who mixed and mastered it, and really brought out the best of it.

That previous song deals with themes of grief and the undoing of one's past from our interpretation. Will these continue to be explored with the new upcoming track, 'Eclipse'?

Eclipse is a personal reflection on the choices I've made throughout my life. The paths not taken, the time wasted, the wrong choices and the wrong people. 'Where were you when the Sun went away?' is an introspective question. As the song progresses it is me coming to terms with my fate, acceptance and the willingness to move forward.

There's a comeback gig coming with this new single as well, what are the details behind that?

[The] new single Eclipse will be released on July 2nd – it’s a little bit of a nod to some of our previous tunes, Asphyxia and Celestine. We also have a come back show at The Workers Club, on July 12th with Terrestrials and Binary Pulse. Really looking forward to what we think will be an epic show!

Fading Hour's new single, 'Eclipse', can be pre-saved here. Check it out on July 2nd
