"Escape; isn’t that what we are all looking for?"
Kisna and Ashanti of My Daydreams seem to think so and they're delivering a monumental EP this month. Brisbane's craziest alternative twins are on their warpath to a huge release after an incredible past 12 months of gigging and support from those closest to them.
Super hyped for 'MALADAPTIVE' to hit streaming services, the singles off this have been amazing so far! Should we come to expect the same style as the past singles that you two have made so iconic?
We are so incredibly excited for 'MALADAPTIVE' to come out, we are so glad to hear that you are loving the singles! Each song within the EP is crafted to sound distinct and unique, designed to reintroduce ourselves. After learning how to produce our own music, we've found that our musical style has evolved drastically, entering a more shoegaze/alternative space!
There's been a lot of evolution through the band with changing the lineup and how you run shows. How have you found that affects the way things are done in your artistry?
My Daydreams, at its centre will and has always been us two (Kisna and Ashanti). We are always finding ways to better our craft, whether that be finding new ways to play shows or adding our live drummer to the mix. A big part of evolving our artistry is to embrace and welcome change! Not being resistant to new ideas and remembering that at the end of the day, our music will always be for our dreamers.
You've always been adamant that your music is made 'for dreamers, by dreamers'. What does it mean to be a dreamer?
Our fans are called Dreamers because music has always been an escape for us. In return, we've found that the people who take interest in our music find our songs therapeutic. Our other phrase that we always say at the end of our shows is "We are My Daydreams and so are you". Even before the release of the EP, we have gotten countless messages from people from all over the world and of all ages reaching out to us saying that our music has become an escape. To be a Dreamer is to be My Daydreams. Our music is and will always be written for our dreamers!
People always say there can't be a favourite child but what's secretly been your favourite release from 'MALADAPTIVE'?
The truth is that we don't have a favourite on the EP. With our singles that we released recently, we've already seen a large variety of people who have found meaning in them. 'MALADAPTIVE' has been designed to take you on an emotional rollercoaster: because of that, we've made sure that there is something for everyone.
Fans of yours have seen the prowess of running tracks you recorded yourselves on stage. How has the recording process been for this one?
The recording process of 'MALADAPTIVE' was both exciting and challenging as it was the first time we produced in a studio, and co-produced with someone outside of ourselves. Everything in our music is deliberate. All decisions we made were extensively thought over to achieve the dense, confessional and emotional atmosphere that is My Daydreams.
Are there any big release plans for 'MALADAPTIVE' with a launch show or publicity stunt that your dreamers should be looking forward to?
The Dreamers should be expecting an all-ages EP Launch show in Brisbane to be announced! Keep an eye on our social media because we will also be playing a bunch of shows where you can sing our songs in person with us!!
